Top 10 Questions

1.    Do you offer pregnancy testing?

Yes. We do urine-based pregnancy tests for free on a walk-in or appointment basis.

If a woman suspects she might be pregnant, getting a lab-quality pregnancy test in a center is an excellent first step.  Whether you’re not sure what to do or you feel relatively sure, starting with a test will help you know whether there is a viable pregnancy occurring. Before you begin worrying talk with your counselor and come up with a plan. You have options…

For some the thought of abortion is strong and feels like the only way to go. Our peer counselors are trained to answer questions about abortion procedures, the possible risks and side effects involved, your rights, and the steps you want to take before making an appointment for an abortion.

We would be happy to have you come in for a confirmation pregnancy test, for information, or for a consultation with one of our counselors.  Contact us today for an appointment or simply walk in between 10:00am-4:00pm Monday – Friday.

2.    Do you do abortions, or can you tell me where I can get one?

No. The LifeCare Center network is a group of pregnancy resource centers that takes a life-affirming stance with regards to abortion and contraception. This means that we do not refer for or perform abortions in our centers.

3.   Can I get the Morning After Pill here?

No. Serious as well as minor side effects have been reported with the use of the morning after pill. We care and we want what is best for you. The chance of getting pregnant after one act of intercourse is so slim that we encourage assessing the situation more closely first.

Come in for a pregnancy test. Call or come in for a quick consultation. The morning after pill is several times the dose of one birth control pill. This can do serious damage to your fertility or, at the very least, leave you feeling ill.

It can increase your risk of an ectopic pregnancy should you become pregnant after taking the morning after pill.  It also has abortifacient properties and if implantation has already occurred it could cause an early abortion.

4.  Do you provide ultrasounds there?

Yes. We provide free limited obstetrical ultrasounds.  All those who come for a pregnancy test and have a positive result will be offered an appointment to come back for an ultrasound.

These ultrasounds are preferably done between 8 and 12 weeks of fetal development, primarily for the purpose of finding a heart beat, making sure the baby is in the uterus, and getting measurements for a more accurate due date.  We can do an ultrasound as early as 6 weeks and as late as 26 weeks.

However, we are not qualified to do any diagnostic work in our ultrasounds, including determining the gender of the child. If you are looking for a diagnostic ultrasound, we will be happy to refer you to a doctor or clinic.

5.  Do you hand out the pill or condoms?

No. All Lifecare Centers are life-affirming and do not provide or promote anything that is attempting to stop life.

The pill and other forms of hormonal contraception can cause unhealthy side effects ranging from mild to serious. Take time to learn more before you put your body through this. While it may be a help in preventing pregnancy, it does not prevent the spread of STIs/STDs. It could also be causing damage to your fertility in ways that may affect your ability to get pregnant later, should you want to. It also has abortifacient properties. (See birth control pills).

Condoms are not 100% effective against the spread of STIs/STDs. They can cause side effects if there is an allergy. There is also the possibility that it could slip or break during intercourse, potentially resulting in pregnancy.

6.  Can I be tested for STIs/STDs there?

Yes. We test for the two most common sexually transmitted bacterial infections – Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Our tests are free but do require an appointment.

Our test is a urine-based test, not a blood test, so it is easy and pain-free. We will get results back in a week. We will spend a little time explaining the basics for self care and STI education.

There are over 25 sexually transmitted infections. It is difficult to be tested at any clinic for all possible STIs at once, but coming for a test of these two common ones is a great place to start. Think you might have an STI/STD? Take the quiz…www.stdwizard.com.

7.  Can I get diapers or formula here?

Yes.  We take appointments for baby clothes and diapers.  A client can come in once every 4 weeks as they need it. We do not provide emergency diapers and will not hand them out without an appointment.  Call us for an appointment and you can get baby items, too.

We provide formula as an emergency resource. We are glad to help. However, due to limited supply, we have had to say a client may receive up to a total of only 2 cans (1 at a time) per child for a lifetime.  If this is one of those emergency times – give us a call!

8.   Do you offer rental assistance?

Not directly, but we do have resources that can help. The University LifeCare Center is an affiliate of Cradle of Hope, an organization that helps to intervene in financial ways when there is a pregnancy-related crisis.

Are you pregnant or have a baby under 3 months? Have you already contacted your county for emergency assistance and been turned down? Have a need for one-time help with rent due to pregnancy-related causes?  Have you already tried family, friends, and other resources?  You might be eligible for help through Cradle of Hope.  Give us a call for a free consultation.

Don’t fit into the above description?  Check out our financial referrals.

9.  Can I get a crib or car seat from your center?

We occasionally offer car seat clinics where you can earn a car seat while learning how to use it properly from a certified car seat instructor. Car seats are a tough one to come by so be sure to be saving to purchase one.  If you are going to buy one baby item on your own, this is the one to save for.   You can buy one as low as $50.00 at local discount retail stores.

We are a Cradle of Hope pack n' play site, which provides you the ability to earn a pack n 'play, which is a safe place for your baby to sleep. Call us today for an appointment to complete an application (must be pregnant or have a baby under 3 months of age).

Yes.  We rely on donations of material items from outside sources in order to supply our Treasures for Life program.

We only accept clothing for the season that we are currently in or approaching.  If you have questions about bringing off-season clothes, please feel free to call and ask.
